Theatre in the Making

Sztuka się Robi/Theatre in the Making is a project that aims to develop theatre for children and young people by exploring new themes and forms, taking into account contemporary trends in thinking about childhood, education and accessibility. The project’s partner is the Children’s Art Centre in Poznań.

Its first stage is a competition for the concept of a performance for children aged 3 to 6, announced on 1 June each year. The second stage is a week-long artistic residency, during which collectives of artists selected in the competition develop their concepts while working with the target audience – children from the participating kindergartens. It is also an opportunity to talk about their ideas, doubts and inspirations with others in a similar situation. The finale of the project are the presentations of the developed draft plays, to which we invite people involved in theatre for children from all over Poland. In October 2023, the first premiere will take place as a result of the first edition of the project – A ciało mówi/And the body speaks, directed by Aneta Jankowska. Does the body speak? And if so, what do we understand from it? A performance for pre-school children that builds a positive image of one’s own body and the bodies around through play and movement. The concept for the project was developed during the residency by a collective consisting of: Aneta Jankowska, Aniela Kokosza, Paulina Giwer-Kowalewska, with the participation of actors Agnieszka Grzegorzewska and Kamil Marek Kowalski.
